What is a Tincture?

There are many ways to reap the benefits of herbs.  A simple cup of chamomile tea is one common way that you are likely able to find anywhere in the world!  Other ways are through oils, salves, creams, syrups, vinegars, bath salts honey, ghee, and more.  What is essential in any herbal product is the quality of herbs.  We grow many of our own herbs or buy from reputable companies

A tincture is an extract of an herb made using alcohol and water. This mixture extracts the myriad of chemical constituents in the herb into an easily administered fluid.  The alcohol increases the absorption as well. A formula can include a number of herbs all in one dropper or just one simple herb.

A potential downside is they are made with alcohol and may not work for someone struggling with alcoholism.  There are tinctures made with glycerin as in the Nurturing Remedies Natural Kids Line or a tincture can be added to hot water so the alcohol could evaporate. Recommended dosages are on the label.

What is an Elixir?

The Elixirs at Nurturing Remedies are made with the same high quality herbs, distilled water, alcohol plus a sweetener.  Our sweeteners are typically our own farm honey or 100% real pure maple syrup.  Elixirs are typically better tasting and can be taken in seltzer, tea or coffee, by themselves or used in cocktails!  How fun!
